The Winter Worms

There’s three of them. And they’re big.

Every winter they crawl up to the edge of the forest, not far from where I live, and lie there until the warm weather apparently wakes them up again. By the beginning of summer they have disappeared. All that is left are the fences people raise around these huge whale like scarred creatures. Do they really think the feeble fences would keep the huge beings in place? Or is it just a habit? There’s no record in history of any humans being injured by these monstrous things. In fact some people even climb inside them during the winter. I wouldn’t, but I’ve seen it been done.

Gentle worm-like creatures of the winter. I wonder where they roam during the summer.
